Easton has launched its EC90 Carbon Crank. Using Carbon Nanotube composite technology; Easton says this crank weighs, with BB, 660 grams- when comparing crank weights, be sure you are seeing a weight with a BB. In the EC90 crank the arms are molded with, hybrid bladder and foam molding, and are called hollow dual core.The spindle is a 24mm diameter (Shimano Dura Ace is 20mm) and is made from thin walled cromoly steel. The shaping of the non-drive crank is interesting: it flares at the spindle end and swallows the BB cup - similar to FSA Neo Pro crankset.

Technology

• Dual Core Composite (DCC) construction allows incredibly precise control of the mold process and also creates a stiffness-boosting spine inside both crank arms
• Hybrid Composite Molding (HCM) combines multiple composite manufacturing techniques to optimize the resin to fiber ratio, adding strength and minimizing weight.
• TaperWall puts the material where it is needed for strength and stiffness. Wall thicknesses are thinner in the center sections to save weight. The transitions between thick and thin sections are seamless to distribute stress evenly along the length of the structure.
